Certificate IV in Fire Systems Compliance

with selected Stream

OVERVIEW

QUEENSLAND DELIVERY

Fire Industry Training (FiT) offers this qualification that allow Fire Protection workers to be able to certify fire protection systems.

It will provide participants with a range of knowledge and skills to:

  • undertake a visual inspection of a fire protection system, and detect any altered, damaged, or compromised aspects within the system
  • determine the fire protection system’s compliance with Australian and international standards, Building Code of Australia requirements and manufacturer’s specifications
  • provide a report (including a certificate) which states the compliance or non-compliance of fire protection systems.

DURATION & STRUCTURE

The range of hours are dependent on the stream chosen. It is expected participants will be required to engage in learning from six months to two years.

Students will be required to complete workplace-based projects, online learning activities and attend web-based classroom sessions, all the time supported by a qualified Trainer. Once all learning requirements have been achieved the student will be required to complete the associated assessment tools.

UNITS OF COMPETENCY

The units of competency represent the core and electives selected by FiT, chosen after consultation with industry experts.  For a student to be awarded the 11002NAT Certificate IV in Fire Systems Compliance (chosen Stream) qualification they must successfully complete ALL core units of competency and elective units related to the selected Stream/s:

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be currently working in the industry for a minimum of 2 years as a licensed Fire Protection person in the stream that they are looking to enrol into. The applicant also needs to provide evidence that they hold a current “White Card” (also known as general Construction Induction Card). The “White Card” is issued by the various States once a person has completed the unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

Throughout the enrolment process the applicant must provide evidence to demonstrate experience within relevant work activities, including:

  • Copy of the relevant job description
  • Written support from their employer
  • Signed copy of their current resume or CV
  • Examples of work
  • Certified copies of other relevant formal and informal training certificates or statements of learning.


To complete training applicants will also need access to:

  • a suitable workplace to undertake research activities and work-based projects
  • a licenced workplace mentor in the stream you are looking to attain
  • relevant Australian Standards, Codes & Legislations.


It is recommended that students can demonstrate Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills equivalent to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING & CREDIT TRANSFER

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment-only process. RPL captures evidence from a student who has already learned in other courses, from life and/or work experience, and from any training at work. This ‘Prior Learning’ must be relevant to one or more of the units of competency they are enrolling in. A student who is assessed through RPL as competent in a unit is not required to do that unit in the course.

If you believe you have completed a unit of competency in another formal learning experience, you may be eligible for a Credit Transfer (CT). You will have to provide a certified copy of the Statement of Results or Statement of Attainment through the enrolment process as evidence. If a CT is identified, you will not have to complete the unit again or be charged for that unit.

QUALIFICATION & STATEMENT

On successful completion of 11002NAT Certificate IV in Fire Systems Compliance, students will be awarded a Qualification. A Statement of Attainment will be issued to students who partially complete the Certificate.

PATHWAYS & CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

There are no articulation arrangements in place for this course.

This Certificate includes three units of competency from the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. Completion of those units provides pathways into qualifications including those units of competency.

FEES, PAYMENTS & GOVERNMENT FUNDING

FiT offers a range of accredited and non-accredited courses which do not attract government funding. Eligible individuals may attract industry or employee fund subsidies. As these arrangements vary from state to state and according to an individual’s circumstances, please contact FiT to discuss these options.

FiT will issue an invoice for payment upon submission of enrolment ($1,500), with the balance to be paid in $1,500 instalments at the commencement of each new unit/stream until the balance is paid.

For eligible participants, this Program can be partly funded through the Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) Higher Qualifications – Building initiative.
